Chettinad mushroom gravy recipe

Hi friends, Today's special is chettinad mushroom gravy. Its spicy curry tastes great with both rice and roti. I made this last night dinner with phulka.


I used button mushroom. You can use any varieties. I always prefer button mushroom because it gets cooked in few minutes also tastes great. I didn't add water for this gravy mushroom itself leave water. If you want dry gravy,don't add more water while grinding masala also reduce tomatoes.

Preparation time:10minutes
Cooking time:15minutes
Serves:5-6

Ingredients:
Mushroom 3cup cleaned and chopped
Onion 2medium sized chopped finely
Tomato 4medium sized chopped finely
Ginger 2tablespoon chopped finely
Garlic 2tablespoon chopped finely
Chilli powder
Garam masala
Coriander leaves for garnishing
Salt to taste
To temper:
Oil
Cumin seeds/seeragam/jeera
Curry leaves few
To roast and grind:
Coconut 3heaped tablespoon
Coriander seeds/mullu malli 1.5tablespoon
Fennel seeds/sombu 3teaspoon
Dried red chilli 4-5(adjust to your taste buds)
Pepper corns 1.5teaspoon
Cloves/krambu 3
Cinnamon/pattai 1inch piece
Cardamom/yelakai 3

Method:

Roast all the ingredients given under "To roast and grind"
Remove it a plate and allow it to cool and blend this in a blender to a fine puree with few water.
Heat oil in a kadai and add in ingredients given under "To temper". Let them crackle.
Add in Onion ,Ginger,Garlic saute it till leaves raw smell.
Add in tomatoes and saute it till it turns mushy.
Add in spice powders and salt. Mix it well.
Add in masala paste and give good mix and add in mushroom and cook it till mushroom gets cooked. Don't add any water. Mushroom itself leave more water.
Serve hot with any roti or rice.

Roast it till it becomes golden brown and allow it to cool.
Grind it to paste and set aside.
Heat oil in a kadai and add in ingredients given under "To temper". Let them crackle.
Add in Onion.
Add in ginger and garlic. Saute it well till it leaves raw smell.
Add in tomatoes and saute it till it turns mushy.
Add in salt to taste.
Add in garam masala and chilli powder and mix it well.
Add in masala puree and give a good mix.
Add in mushroom.
Cook till mushroom gets cooked. Don't add water mushroom itself leave water.
Add in coriander leaves for garnishing.
Serve hot.
