I don't know modak can be made using poha till I heard it from my friend then searched in Google and tried from sharmis passion website.
This is also pidi kozhukattai but this is savoury.I was not confident with this recipe so done in small quantity only obtained 4modak. Believe it or not it was vanished in a minute and my husband asked me to do another batch so cooked again.

Ingredients:
Poha/Aval 1/2cup
Water 1/4cup+2tablespoon
Grated coconut 1tablespoon
Water 1/4cup+2tablespoon

Tempering:
Oil 1/2 teaspoon
Mustard 1/4 teaspoon
Urad dal 1/8 teaspoon
Curry leaves few leaves
Green chill 1small

Method:
Grind poha coarsely and set aside.
Heat oil in a kadai, add the ingredients listed in tempering.
Add in water and when it comes to rolling boil add in poha powder and mix it well.
It gets cooked quickly, add in grated coconut and give a final mix.
Switch off the gas and allow it to cool.
Grease your hands and roll it into cylinder shape and press it using fingers.
Steam it in steamer.
Serve it hot.
