Ragi vermicelli upma/Ragi semiya upma

Hey guys today I had tasty and healthy breakfast. Guess what?? Ragi vermicelli upma. I used to have this once a week. So thought to share this here.


I didn't steam this as mentioned in ragi vermicelli upma. Also used veggies. So its filling and healthy.

Hope you too will love it and give it a try also don't forget to share your experience.

Preparation time:5minutes.
Cooking time:10minutes.
Serves:2

Ingredients:

  • Ragi vermicelli 1packet(180gram packet)
  • Water 1 cup
  • Onion/periya vengayam 1medium sized finely chopped
  • Dried Red chilli 2
  • Veggies(I used 1 carrot. You can use any veggies even mixed veggies like carrot,beans)
  • Coriander leaves for garnish
  • Salt to taste


Tempering:

  • Sesame oil 2teaspoon
  • Mustard 1teaspoon
  • Urad dal 1teaspoon
  • Curry leaves few
  • Asafoetida 1/4teaspoon


Meathod:

Heat oil in a kadai,add in all the ingredients given under tempering.
Let them splutters. Add in onion and chilli.
Saute it till it turns translucent.
Add in veggies and saute it till it leaves raw smell. Add in salt to taste.Add in ragi vermicelli and give a good mix. Sprinkle a tablespoon of water at a time and mix it well.Repeat this till your vermicelli gets cooked well. Don't add more water else it will become very soggy.
Cover the lid and cook in low flame.
Garnish using Coriander leaves.
Serve with coconut chutney.

Stepwise pictures:

Heat oil in a kadai.

Add in mustard let it splutters.

Add in urad dal.

Add in curry leaves.

Add in asafoetida.

Now add in onion and saute it till it turns translucent.

Add in red chilli and saute it.

Add in veggies
(I used 1 carrot. You can use any veggies even mixed veggies like carrot,beans)Saute it till it leaves raw smell.

Add in salt to taste and give a good mix.

Add in ragi vermicelli.

Give a good mix.

Sprinkle a tablespoon of water at a time and mix it well.

Again sprinkle a tablespoon of water at a time and mix well.

Repeat this till your vermicelli gets cooked.

Cover the lid and cook in low flame for 2minutes.

Garnish using coriander leaves.

Serve with chutney.

Notes:

  • Don't add too much water else it will become soggy.
  • Don't add all the water at once and cook this also makes your dish very soggy.
  • You can add any veggies as you wish even as mixed veggies.
